Winner of the 1988 Pierre Fournier Award
Gregor Horsch has been first solo-cellist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra since 1997. He studied in Freiburg and at the Royal Northern College of Music with Ralph Kirshbaum where he gained his Diploma in Performance with distinction.
Winner of the first Pierre Fournier Award in 1988, he came to public attention with his début recital at the Wigmore Hall, an appearance at the first International Cello Festival in Manchester, and recordings for BBC Radio 3.
With the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra he has played concertos by Barber, Elgar, Schumann and Haydn. Gregor Horsch’s passion for chamber music has resulted in collaboration with artists such as Emmanuel Ax, Janine Jansen, Nobuko Imai and in duo-partnership with Carole Preslandand Klara Würtz.
Together with Ralph Kirshbaum he was soloist in the world première of Tristan Keuris’ Double Concerto at the Manchester International Cello Festival in 1992. He has given Dutch premières of works by Rihm, Kurtág, Gubaidulina, Bach and Beethoven at the Amsterdam Cellobiennale.
Since 1996 Gregor Horsch has taught at the conservatoires of The Hague, Amsterdam and the RNCM and has been invited to give masterclasses worldwide. Since 2009 he has been a professor at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf.
Gregor Horsch has previously visited the Lake District Summer Music festival in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013.
